Exhibition Total Refusal: Deconstructing the bridge
GRINDFEST.
Voor de 14e editie van Go Short is het pseudo-marxistische kunstenaarscollectief Total Refusal uitgenodigd om op te treden als gastcurator. Op drie verschillende locaties in Nijmegen vertoont het collectief eigen werk en werk van regionale kunstenaars. Centraal staat het thema ‘werk’, waar het collectief een invulling aan geeft middels korte films en interactieve kunst in bestaande games.
In het Besiendershuis is de nieuwe productie Deconstructing the Bridge te zien. Total Refusal zegt hierover:
Together with the local artist and operator of the Besienderhuis residency Jan-Wieger van den Berg, the media guerilla Total Refusal walks through the digital replica of the area next to the city of Nijmegen within the video game Battlefield V. This Dutch town and its famous bridge appear in many World War II shooters, famous for its bridge which played a crucial role during the liberation of Europe. While van den Berg is using his avatar to walk through the devastated battlefield he explains particular events, reconstructing the history of a digitally estranged Nijmegen and its famous bridge.
The absence of fighting on the battlefield reveals the catastrophe of fighting itself: As the essence of war is destruction, bridges are torn down only to be reconstructed in moments of peace.

Over Total Refusal.
De pseudo-marxistische mediaguerrilla Total Refusal verkent en beoefent strategieën voor artistieke interventie in hedendaagse computergames. Het collectief werkt met hulpmiddelen voor toe-eigening en herbestemming van games.
Besiendershuis, POST en Singular Art. De exposities gaan in preview vanaf 2 april bij het Besiendershuis en bij Singular Art. De feestelijke opening zal plaatsvinden op 7 april bij POST Nijmegen, waarna ook POST t/m 17 april geopend zal zijn. De locaties zijn kosteloos te bezoeken.
Besiendershuis is geopend op 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,14,15 en 16 april van 11 tot 17 uur.
